"Thanksgiving is the soil in which joy thrives," said Dr. Tony Evans.

May the joy of spending time with family, friends, and community remind us to give thanks.

Psalm 136:1-4, becomes the fruit from the soil of our soul. "Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His faithful love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of gods. His faithful love endures forever. Give thanks to the Lord of lords. His faithful love endures forever. He alone does great wonders. His faithful love endures forever.

Our text for today reminds us to give glory, honor, and praise to God.

The psalmist reveals three reasons to give thanks.

God is Good
God is King
God is Love

God is Good

King David invites us into a spirit of gratitude, not just for what God does but for who He is. He says, "Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His faithful love endures forever." From the beginning of creation to His redemptive work through Jesus Christ, God's goodness and enduring love shine brightly.

God is King

The psalmist continues by reminding us to "give thanks to the God of gods" (v.2), and the "Lord of lords" (v.3). These declarations affirm His unmatched authority and sovereignty. Just as the Israelites celebrated God's deliverance and faithfulness, we have reason to rejoice today. He is the same God who parted the Red Sea for Moses and calmed the storm for the disciples (Exodus 14:21-22; Mark 4:39).

God is Love

In verse four, the writer proclaims, "He alone does great wonders." From the majesty of creation (Genesis 1:1) to the miracle of Christ's resurrection (Matthew 28:6) and the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2), God's works declare His power and steadfast love.

Thanksgiving is a declaration of our faith in God. Therefore, proclaim, "His faithful love endures forever"—Sherrie T.
